Who is Rosenberger Telematics?
We are an Austrian telematics company founded in 2008. We develop Commander, a modular SaaS platform that gives companies complete visibility over their vehicles, machines, and mobile assets. We are part of the global Rosenberger Group (15,000 employees worldwide) and are based in Timelkam, Upper Austria.

-
What is Commander?
Commander is our core product, a multi-tenant SaaS telematics platform that collects real-time telemetry from vehicles, machines, and mobile assets and turns it into operational intelligence.
Live tracking, trip history, digital logbook, tachograph compliance, alert management, zone monitoring, maintenance tracking, analytics, and ERP integration. It is modular: start with what you need, add capabilities as your operation grows. One platform for your entire fleet management or equipment park, regardless of manufacturer.
-
Which industries do you serve?
Construction is our primary segment, but Commander works for any operation with mobile assets. We serve transport and logistics, municipalities and public enterprises, waste management, energy, manufacturing, and OEM & white-label offering for vehicle manufacturers. Company sizes range from a single vehicle to several thousand assets.
-
Where is my data hosted?
In a private cloud operated by conova communications GmbH in Salzburg, Austria. All data is processed and stored in Austria and never leaves Austrian territory. Data is retained for 12 months by default, extendable on request.
-
Is Commander GDPR-compliant?
Yes. Data is hosted in Austria under EU law. Commander's digital logbook includes permission-based private trip protection, when trip data is requested, private trip details belonging to another driver are removed from the response before they are returned. This satisfies GDPR requirements around employee location data.
We can provide a Data Processing Agreement (DPA) for your compliance documentation.

What hardware do I need?
Two options.
Option 1: Install a Rosenberger Telematics OBU (On-Board Unit), our proprietary IP54–IP69K-rated telematics device, designed for vehicles and heavy machinery.
Option 2: If your assets already have a manufacturer telematics feed (OEM API or ISO 15143-3 / AEMP 2.0), connect them as virtual devices, no additional hardware required.
Both approaches give you identical functionality in Commander.
-
Can Commander track assets from different manufacturers on one screen?
Yes. This is one of Commander's core differentiators. Liebherr cranes, Caterpillar excavators, Mercedes-Benz vans, Lindner tractors, plus containers, tools and measuring devices, they all appear in a unified view. Hardware-independent tracking via OBU devices, and direct manufacturer integration via AEMP 2.0 / ISO 15143-3 for machines that already have a manufacturer data feed.
-
Does Commander support AEMP 2.0 / ISO 15143-3?
Yes. Commander has a native interface for the AEMP 2.0 / ISO 15143-3 construction telematics machinery data standard. Assets connected via this standard appear and behave identically to hardware-backed assets inside Commander. Particularly relevant for construction companies running mixed-manufacturer fleets.
-
What ERP systems does Commander integrate with?
Commander provides open REST APIs that your ERP system can integrate to. For specific customers, we also build custom gateways that call endpoints in your existing systems, including SAP and Microsoft Dynamics. Our team supports integration scoping and implementation.
-
Is there a mobile app?
Four companion apps, all for iOS and Android.
- R-COCKPIT: Live fleet overview for fleet managers.
- R-DRIVE: Digital logbook and trip classification for drivers.
- R-SERVICE: Field technician installation and service workflows.
- R-BEACON: Background beacon scanning for proximity-based asset tracking.
R-COCKPIT, R-DRIVE and R-SERVICE are included in the Commander licenses. R-BEACON is optional.

Compliance
-
Is the digital logbook accepted by Austrian and German tax authorities?
Yes. Commander's electronic logbook has been audited by independent chartered public accountants under IDW PS 860 and meets the requirements of German GoBD and Austrian tax and commercial law (BAO, UGB) for a compliant electronic logbook. Trip data is automatically recorded, tamper-resistant, and exportable in the formats required for tax audits. The full audit report is available on request.
-
How does private trip protection work for drivers?
When a driver marks a trip as private, in the R-DRIVE app or via the in-vehicle switch, that trip's GPS positions, route, start and stop times, and destination addresses are removed from any response served to other users. The details are only returned when the requesting user is the driver who owns the trip. Only the driver can see their own private trip details.
This design meets Austrian and German employer-employee data protection requirements (DSGVO / Betriebsverfassung).
-
Does Commander support Smart Tachograph 2?
Yes. Commander's Tachograph module handles remote download and analysis of Smart Tachograph 2 data just as it does for earlier digital tachograph generations. After the ST2 hardware retrofit in your vehicles (required from 1 July 2026 for vehicles 2.5–3.5 tonnes in cross-border transport), the compliance reporting, driver hour analysis, and infringement detection in Commander continue without any reconfiguration on the software side.
