PORR & Verkehrsbetriebe Burgenland: Telematics in Practice
17,000 devices across Europe. 100+ digital logbooks in regional transport. Two industries, one platform.
PORR AG: from 100 test devices to 17,000

Ten years ago, PORR AG and Rosenberger Telematics started with a proof of concept: 100 telematics devices in a controlled test. Within twelve months, that number had grown to 4,000. Today, 17,000 Commander systems are active across PORR’s operations in Austria, Germany, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia, with partial rollout in Poland and Romania.
That trajectory tells the story more clearly than any feature list. A partnership that started with a pilot became the operational backbone for one of Central Europe’s largest construction groups. Fleet visibility, machinery tracking, and data-driven dispatch, all running through Commander.
The 17,000th device was a milestone. It also marked a decade of continuously networked data: machine hours, utilisation patterns, maintenance events, and location history across every major PORR market.
What a 10-year data foundation makes possible
Ten years of telematics data is not just history. It is a decision-making asset. Maintenance intervals informed by actual operating hours rather than calendar dates. Idle asset identification across international sites. Compliance documentation that builds itself. Every additional year of data makes the next operational decision sharper.
For a company operating construction projects simultaneously across multiple countries, that clarity is not a convenience. It is a competitive advantage.
Verkehrsbetriebe Burgenland: digital logbooks for regional public transport

Reliability and safety are the non-negotiables in public transport. For Verkehrsbetriebe Burgenland, the regional mobility provider serving Burgenland, digitising the vehicle fleet was the next step in meeting those standards consistently and documenting them automatically.
More than 100 Commander digital logbooks are now in active use across the fleet. Drivers log trips through the platform; operators get accurate, audit-ready records without manual reconciliation. Route data, driver assignments, and mileage are captured in real time, giving the dispatch team the overview they need and giving regulators the documentation they require.
The move from paper-based or spreadsheet-driven logkeeping to Commander’s digital logbook module reduces administrative overhead and eliminates the gaps that manual processes inevitably create.
Two industries, one approach
Construction and public transport look different on the surface. The underlying requirement is the same: every asset, every trip, every event: visible, documented, and actionable. Commander delivers that whether the fleet is a fleet of excavators on a building site or a fleet of buses on a regional route.
Both PORR and Verkehrsbetriebe Burgenland chose Commander not because it is a category-specific tool, but because it is flexible enough to serve their specific operational reality. That flexibility, and the data it generates, is what turns telematics from a compliance checkbox into a genuine management instrument.
