The power of data: Leyrer + Graf turns challenges into opportunities with Rosenberger Telematics

 

In the modern construction industry, efficiency and cost control are decisive factors for a company's success. Leyrer + Graf, one of the leading construction companies with a total of 18 locations, has taken a remarkable step towards increasing efficiency by implementing telematics solutions from Rosenberger Telematics. Around 900 light commercial vehicles and dozens of trailers, small equipment, lorries and construction machinery have been equipped with telematics. The company has not only optimised its logistics, but has also made significant progress in the use of data.

The challenges in fleet management

Before implementing the telematics systems, Leyrer + Graf was faced with various challenges: insufficient monitoring of vehicles and machines, safety risks and the need to optimise the use of the fleet. Inefficient use of resources often led to higher costs and longer response times in the event of problems.

 

 

 

Revolutionary solutions through telematics

In 2020, the strategic decision was made to implement telematics solutions in order to meet the growing challenges in the construction industry more effectively. Mr. Fritz Preiser, Head of Machinery and Fleet, emphasizes the reasons: β€œIssues such as theft, predictive maintenance and an overview of the use of machines and equipment on large construction sites are of central importance to us. Competitiveness in the market also plays a decisive role.”

After a Europe-wide market analysis, Rosenberger Telematics was chosen because of its comprehensive overall package. Although the integration of the tacho portal into the COMMANDER software was not yet being considered at the time, the decision was made to enter into this partnership and Rosenberger Telematics quickly showed that it was prepared to develop further and meet the wishes of its customers. Speedometer data from 43 trucks is currently being imported into the software remotely.

Mr. Preiser reported on the immediate benefits of the technology: β€œIt was already clear during the introduction that the investment would pay for itself. A recently stolen vehicle could be located and stopped within a very short time, which meant that the costs for the year were already covered.”

Efficient use of the R-SERVICE app

One notable aspect of the implementation of telematics hardware is the R-SERVICE app, which makes a significant contribution to efficiency in the Leyrer + Graf workshops. Every workshop user has a cell phone at their disposal, which can be used to create a log for the installation of the telematics devices. This ensures complete digital documentation and verification of the installation process before the devices are released.

Significant efficiency gains

Rosenberger's telematics solutions have established themselves at Leyrer + Graf in three areas: Device management, scheduling and maintenance, both strategically and operationally. The 360Β° all-round view offered by the COMMANDER software enables operational employees to effectively manage their construction sites, create reports and actively adjust the performance of the assigned machines. The mobile application of the R-COCKPIT app has established itself as an indispensable tool that is used right down to the truck driver.

Another important factor was the involvement of the works council in the process. β€œIt was crucial to get them on board. Telematics has now become a valuable tool for the works council,” confirms Mr. Preiser. Only vehicles, machines and equipment are mapped by the monitoring system, whereby assignment to a person only takes place with their approval. This not only ensures the safety of employees, but also enables quick access to relevant data in the event of a dispute.

For future development, Leyrer + Graf would like Rosenberger Telematics to provide extended functions, particularly in the areas of CO2 footprint and predictive maintenance in combination with sensor technology. Rosenberger Telematics is actively involved with new technologies and trends and promises continuous enhancements in these areas for all customers.
