Initial situation and challenges before implementing the telematics solution

Before implementing the telematics solutions from Rosenberger Telematics, BGO Montage & Logistik was faced with major challenges. The container park, which has up to 400 containers in use every day, required efficient monitoring. β€˜There were always cases where containers were parked with the haulier for too long or could not even be found at short notice,’ says Fleet Manager Gerald Weber, describing the situation. This uncertainty made it difficult to discuss idle times with the haulage companies and to communicate within the team.

 

Maintenance management was also a key challenge. With 454 objects, including lorries, buses, containers and various tools such as stair climbers, ladders and laser tools, regular inspections had to be ensured in order to maintain the high quality standard. β€˜There are numerous maintenance and inspection tasks to complete every day. It is crucial that all equipment is in perfect condition in order to minimise safety risks,’ explains Weber.

The merger to form BGO Montage und Logistik GmbH also led to an increasing need for standardised fleet management across all 10 locations. In the search for a suitable solution and a provider that could fulfil these needs, the choice fell on Rosenberger Telematics.

Container tracking: The implementation of the TINO tracking solution from Rosenberger Telematics has significantly improved processes at BGO Montage & Logistik. The streamlined asset tracking solution not only made it possible to gain a comprehensive overview, but also to sustainably increase safety and efficiency. β€˜The software is clear and easy to use - the positions of the containers are always clearly visible and maintenance management is mapped transparently,’ says Gerald Weber.

Digitale workflows: A key feature of the new solution is the ability to implement standard service and inspection processes, which must be reconfirmed once they have been carried out. Each container is checked at regular intervals with regard to its technical condition and roadworthiness, and safety-relevant factors are documented in order to ensure accident prevention and commission repair work if necessary. Managing Director Peter Morawetz emphasises: β€˜Safety is the be-all and end-all. Our containers are travelling all over Europe, and negligence in maintenance would entail an unacceptable business risk.’ The firmly established regular control mechanisms fulfil the legal requirements and ensure safety in day-to-day operations.

Digital tachograph: The TACHO solution from Rosenberger Telematics also enables automated retrieval of tachograph data, which makes the work of drivers and fleet managers much easier. β€˜The automatic download of the data and driver card is an enormous labour saving and also guarantees full compliance with legal requirements,’ says Weber.

 

Future outlook and conclusion on digital transformation with telematics

BGO Montage & Logistik sees great potential in its ongoing collaboration with Rosenberger Telematics. In future, the company plans to use telemetry data to calculate fleet performance even more precisely and implement predictive maintenance.
